Two Diplomats Resign from State Department

As part of a restructuring effort at the State Department, two long-term diplomats resigned from the agency. William Rivington Brownfield, an assistant secretary of State who deals with narcotics issues, and Tracey Ann Jacobson, a bureaucrat who tracks international policy, have both left their posts.

According to Western Journalism, “Jacobson will leave her post in October. Brownfield will step down by the end of September.”

This is the latest in a series of shake-ups at the Foggy Bottom-based agency. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has made it known that he wants to cut the agency down substantially.

Just recently, Tillerson announced details of his reduction proposal, including the reduction of many special envoys. In a letter to Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, Tillerson wrote, “I believe that the Department will be able to better execute its mission by integrating certain envoys and special representative offices within the regional and functional bureaus and eliminating those that have accomplished or outlived their original purpose.”

It looks like a lot of big changes are coming to the State Department, maybe even with Tillerson. President Trump is reportedly “frustrated” with Tillerson, and may seek to replace him in the near future.

With so many departures, it looks like the Trump Administration truly is draining the swamp at Foggy Bottom.
