Millionaire Lawyer and Wife Rake in $100,000 in Welfare

You often hear of welfare abuse all over our country, with common sense Americans like you and I crying out that it’s destroying our culture, our families, and our economy, while the media and the Democrat Party turn a blind eye.

And then you see a story like this, that is so outrageous it can hardly even be believed.

You have a prominent immigrant lawyer who made over $1.5 million last year, and to most of us that’s a life of unimaginable luxury. So why was his wife filing for and getting food stamps and Medicaid benefits for over six years?

Now call me crazy, but that’s fraud and abuse on a grand scale. Helen Agbapuruonwu and her husband Fidelis were tipping the night fantastic until they were caught.

Wait until you hear the rest.

Police say Helen Agbapuruonwu, mother of four, collected food stamps and Medicaid benefits from 2010 to 2016, while here husband, Fidelis Agbapuruonwu, was earning $1.5 million as a lawyer in Washington, D.C., NBC News 4 reports.

Helen Agbapuruonwu “fraudulently obtained public assistance in excess of $100,000 under false pretenses” police allege, and she has been charged “with felony welfare fraud and document forgery,” according to a police report.

Fidelis Agbapuruonwu, who immigrated to the U.S. from Nigeria in the 1990s, worked as an associate at Mayer Brown in D.C., according to his LinkedIn profile. A spokesman for Mayer Brown told NBC 4 that Agbapuruonwu no longer works there. Agbapuruonwu received a Paul & Daisy Soros Scholarship for New Americans, which he used to pay for law school at Ohio State University.

Court officials believe that Agbapuruonwu may have “fled the country and is somewhere in Africa,” NBC News reports.

Can you believe this? Fidelis left his wife holding the bag while he traveled back to Africa? She’s here in the U.S., taking care of four kids without his help and most likely will be facing these charges alone. That’s just not right.

I hope they are able to find Fidelis and bring him back here to face charges. What the couple did isn’t new, but they made history in the worst possible way. Will Social Services make the necessary changes so it won’t happen again? Time will tell.
