CNN Runs Contradictory Headlines Within a Week to Attack Trump

cnn contradictory headlines

A single CNN contributor ran two contradictory stories within a week one period, revising his reporting only when the opportunity to attack Donald Trump presented itself.

The first story was from September 20th, where the author reported that NFL ratings were down following the recent wave of players taking the knee during the National Anthem.

A decline in ratings was to be expected, as allowing the protests truly showed that the NFL’s management doesn’t know their own audience. People watch sports to escape from politics – not to see politics preached by multi-millionaires. And given that 72 percent of NFL fans find the protests “unpatriotic,” it’s clear that they chose the wrong political ideology to promote.

In the article, author Frank Pallotta writes that, “The NFL’s TV ratings are down so far this season and if that news isn’t distressing enough for the biggest ratings driver on TV, the latest slump follows a 2016 season marked by unstable ratings that had pundits and analysts scratching their heads.”

He noted that NFL’s “Sunday Night Football” had seen a 7% decline in viewership compared to last year. Additionally, ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” is down 5%, while the Sunday afternoon games on Fox and CBS are down 11% and 19% respectively.

The only disclaimer Pallotta added was that “the league could still stage a ratings comeback like it did last year when the election ended and the playoffs approached.”

And then a few days later, President Donald Trump took credit for the NFL’s ratings declining, and Pallotta ran the following story…..

Yes – that was only six days after reporting on the massive declines in the NFL’s traffic.

So how does he spin the data he reported last week? He notes that since then, “overall overnight ratings for the NFL’s week 3 games were up 3% compared to the same week last year.”

Three percent. Whoopie.

Even that article requires a disclaimer at the bottom, in which Pallotta actually acknowledges that Trump is right. “If Trump was talking about NFL ratings generally, and not this week, he was at least partially right in two ways.”

Yeah, no kidding.
