The Washington Post has confirmed: Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has changed his mind and will officially run for the U.S. Senate next year.
Recent polling data implied Rubio was the only candidate who could beat the likely opponent, Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL):
Sen. Marco Rubio will seek reelection to the Senate, according to multiple reports Wednesday.
A Senate aide told The Hill that Rubio, in an effort to rally conservative support, reached out to Mike Lee to alert him of his intent to run for re-election.
Rubio had insisted since he began his presidential run that he would retire from the Senate after one term.
But Rubio had been rumored in recent weeks to be reconsidering, and has been urged by top Senate Republicans to run for a seat that could be pivotal to determining the majority in the Senate.
He has until this Friday to decide whether he’ll file for his seat.

In this political environment, Republicans in the U.S. Senate are vulnerable to lose the majority. But Rubio’s decision may ensure Republicans keep control of the Sunshine State.
Poll data shows that @marcorubio does by far the best in holding onto his Senate seat in Florida. Important to keep the MAJORITY. Run Marco!
